Inspire teens to start their own real business while reinforcing and teaching computer application skills!

The Teen Entrepreneur is a new, comprehensive real-world simulation that teaches students how to create a comprehensive business plan (students choose their own business) and reinforces computer application skills through entrepreneurship concepts.

The simulation integrates all of the Microsoft Office® software applications by requiring students to start a real teen-based business. Students use Word®, Excel®, Access®, Publisher®, PowerPoint®, and FrontPage® (optional) to develop the worksheets and documents necessary for their teen-based business.

Completion time:
The simulation takes approximately 23-28 clock hours to complete.


Format:
The simulation uses a self-guided, personalized teaching and learning style where students select their own teen-based business to run and operate. Students build their business by using Microsoft Office® applications to create all the necessary documents to create an individualized, comprehensive "Business Plan Portfolio."

Students create an individualized business plan by combining the use of:

  • Word® (to key documents)

  • Publisher® (to create a business card, advertisement, and brochure)
    Note:
    Publisher® portion can be substituted using any desktop publishing software

  • Excel® (to create financial statements)

  • Access® (to create a customer database)

  • MS PowerPoint® (to create a promotional slide show)

  • MS FrontPage® (to create a company Web page-optional)

  • Illustration or Drawing Software (to create a business logo)

Students choose from a wide-variety of teen-based businesses including:

  • Landscaping
  • Painting
  • Pet Sitting & Grooming
  • Car Wash
  • Bike Repair
  • Web Designer
  • DJ

  • Academic Tutor

  • Desktop Publisher

  • Typist

  • And many more!

Students will draw on a variety of business and technology skills (to produce a comprehensive business plan) including:

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Marketing and Advertising

  • Accounting and Finance

  • Business Planning

  • Presentation Skills

  • Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design

  • Word Processing

  • Spreadsheets

  • Database

  • Internet Research

  • Planning and Decision-making
