You’re the Boss ®
is an educational board game specifically designed to teach the importance
of responsibility, reliability, integrity, and the work ethic. These are
vital concepts that are extremely difficult to teach using traditional
methods. This simulation game puts players in the role of the boss. In
order to win the game, players need reliable and responsible employees,
but some of their employees are lacking in these personal qualities.
Unreliable, dishonest, and irresponsible employees prevent the player from
winning the game.
Although the game is a simulation,
the competition is real, and players are forced to make important
decisions regarding sales goals, hiring and firing employees, etc. |

During the post-game discussion, the teacher
acts as a discussion leader, encouraging the students to use their
experience in the game to discuss what makes a good employee. The game is
designed so that the concepts brought up by the students in the discussion
include the personal qualities of reliability, responsibility, integrity,
etc. This game is a fun way to get students to think seriously about the
importance of these qualities, which are vital for success in school and
in life in general. The focus on personal qualities, such as integrity and
responsibility, make this game an ideal learning experience for character
education while learning about business.
